The Yamaha racing story began over 40 years ago, when on 9th July 1955,

the factory entered three YA1 125cc motorcycles in the

Mount Fuji race meeting in Japan. This was Yamaha's first ever competition event and from

the start all three machines shot into an unassailable lead.

The Yamaha Racing History

Although one of the machines failed just three miles from the

finish Yamaha took a 1-2 victory, both machines crossing the

line over 4 minutes ahead of the rest of the field!

Later on in the same year, this time at the Asama circuit, Yamaha entered four machines

and swept all before them to fill the first four finishing positions at the end of the race.

Little did the racing fraternity realise then, but these early episodes in Yamaha history

would change the face of world motorcycle racing forever, and lay the foundation for one

of the most exciting and successful of all road race machines -
